Weigh-in Wednesday: Week 4

Wow!
Today marks one month of challenging myself to become a healthier me!
While I've faced some obstacles, and at times I've felt discouraged,
today I am feeling overall pretty good about myself!
I'm making changes that will last a lifetime......while I've chosen to use SlimFast to help me lose weight, I've been incorporating it into my daily life in a way that's helping me make better choices.
Smaller portions, healthier alternatives to my favorite snacks, not depriving myself of things I love......
these are all ways that I have helped myself lose weight, but things that won't leave me on a roller-coaster of weight-loss and weight-gain anymore!
The weight is coming off more slowly than I had imagined it would, but I'm realizing that's a good thing!
This week I'm not discouraged. Rather, I'm proud of what I've accomplished so far. It's not just about the number on the scale, but about how I feel.
And today, I feel pretty good! Thicker, Fuller Hair?! My new obsession!
Now, let's weigh-in, shall we?!

Here's the run-down:
Each week I'm going to share with you my ups and downs from the current week, my current weight and any other progress notes, and some words of wisdom.
Then, it's your turn to link up and share with everyone else your ups and downs, current weight (if you want to) and other progress notes, and words of wisdom for that week's topic.

The rules for linking up are simple.......write your blog post,
and be sure to include my button (grab the link below).
Then, head back here and link your post at the bottom of this one!
It's easy, and I'm not too picky on what you post about......I want to hear YOUR thoughts on fitness, diet, exercise, and healthy living!
I'll have a different "topic of interest" each week, but you can really write about whatever you feel like writing and sharing.

Okay, on to the good stuff!

Positive: Making better choices, even on a "cheat day"
Negative: STILL not exercising. Boo.
Starting weight: 144.8
Last week's weight: 138.4
Current weight: 136.4
Total weight loss to date: 8.4 pounds
This week's topic: No topic today.

I just don't feel like talking today!
If you have great advice, a success story, or even something to say about setbacks, feel free to join in!

Weigh-in Wednesday: Week 3

I'm finding it hard to not get discouraged with this whole process.
It seems as if there's always something that is just trying to get me off track. This last weekend we went camping. For me, camping has always meant aimlessly eating while sitting around camp playing board games, then taking a walk to the bathroom, eating a fire-roasted dinner, and settling in for a long night of s'mores and snacking.

I didn't do too bad last weekend, considering the frame of mind I'm normally in on trips like that. I'm learning to readjust my expectations (how about camping is time for family, being active, and some adventure? I have to make it not so much about the food), find pleasure in things other than food (taking a walk on the beach with my daughter is much more satisfying than shoving a twinkie down my throat, believe it or not!), and enjoy small treats along the way (portion control and finding yummy alternatives to my favorite desserts really isn't that bad, afterall)! So, camping this year wasn't a total gut-buster, but I'm hoping to gain even more self-control and perspective before any more family camp-outs :)

Now, let's weigh-in, shall we?!

Okay, on to the good stuff!

Positive: Not getting TOO far off track while camping
Negative: Getting a little off track while camping
Starting weight: 144.8
Last week's weight: 139.6
Current weight: 138.4
Total weight loss to date: 6.4 pounds
This week's topic: Exercise

Ok since I have yet to exercise (for reals) during the past three weeks, let's talk about it!
I want to know what forms of exercise you like.
What do you think is fun? What exercise seems to benefit you the most?

For me, I want to like running. I want to, but I just don't. I think I may force myself to start running though, for a few reasons: 1) I really do feel good after I run, 2) It's free and doesn't require driving anywhere, 3) Ellie can go with me! I have to ration my time each day (as in, how would I like to spend nap time today? Showering, blogging, cleaning the kitchen, or running?) so exercise where Ellie can chill in the stroller is a plus.
I could also do a workout DVD after E goes to bed (heaven knows I own about a million of them).
But working out in our tiny house kinda makes me feel claustrophobic. And dirty.
So, should I challenge myself?! Maybe I'll set a goal......run two times in the next week.
There, that doesn't sound so bad, now does it?

Will you challenge yourself, too? What form of exercise is your favorite? And what goals can you set for yourself this week?

Weigh-in Wednesday: Week 2

Happy Wednesday!
Today feels like Friday to me because, well, it is my Friday!
I'm leaving on a camping adventure tomorrow, and I'm so excited!
It's the only real "vacation" I've gotten to take the last few years,
and I look forward to it every summer now!
But before I leave, we have a weigh-in to address, now don't we?!

Here's the run-down:
Each week I'm going to share with you my ups and downs from the current week, my current weight and any other progress notes, and some words of wisdom.

Okay, on to the good stuff!

Positive: Sticking with my new diet regimen. Oh, and actually losing weight! Yay!
Negative: I have yet to work out this week. Again.
Starting weight: 144.8
Current weight: 139.6
This week's topic: Tricks of the Trade
This week I want to talk about any tricks you might have for succeeding with a diet/weightloss routine.
You see, anytime I'm on a diet or simply just "watching what I'm eating", I feel like I need to treat myself most days. I mean, I give myself a cheat day every week or two, but besides that, most days I just want a treat that tastes good or satisfies a craving. So some tricks I've been pulling out lately are:

1. Diet or no-calorie beverages. Most days, drinking a diet coke or iced tea is so refreshing, and makes me feel like I'm treating myself, and I don't get diet-sidetracked at all!
2. Chewing gum. Okay this one sounds silly, but some days a stick of gum is all it takes! I don't count the 5 calories in my daily intake, but I do enjoy the flavor and it usually is enough to tide me over until my next healthy snack or meal.
3. Low fat or fat free popcorn. It's no lie, I looooove me some popcorn. At this point, it really doesn't even have to be a certain kind of popcorn! So, grabbing a 100-calorie bag of homestyle popcorn, or 99% fat free kettle corn can totally satisfy my craving.
4. Graham Crackers. Ok, another randome one. But have you eaten graham crackers lately?! I'm quite fond of them as a snack now, because of their low calorie and fat content. And, it makes me feel like I'm "cheating" just a little because they taste so good!

So, what gets you through a tough day or a craving?! What are your favorite "tricks" that you can share with us?!

A Little Kind and I

Some day (soon, I hope), I'll be confident enough to wear a swimsuit. I still won't be as cute as this little nugget, but I'm just fine with the spotlight being on her :)

Weigh-in Wednesday: Week 1

Well, here we are! Our first week of "weighing-in".
It hasn't been a full week since I started my diet and exercise changes, but it's Wednesday, and we have to start these weigh-ins sometime!
So, let's get down to it!

Each week I'm going to share with you my ups and downs from the current week, my current weight and any other progress notes, and some words of wisdom.
Then, it's your turn to link up and share with everyone else your ups and downs, current weight (if you want to) and other progress notes, and words of wisdom for that week's topic.

The rules for linking up are simple.......write your blog post, and be sure to include my button (grab the link below). Then, head back here and link your post at the bottom of this one!

Okay, on to the good stuff!

Positive: Starting a new diet regimen!
Negative: I have yet to work out this week. Bummer.
Starting weight: 144.8
Current weight: 142.4 (what?! if that's not motivating, I don't know what is!!)
This week's topic: Fad Diets

C'mon, I'm doing SLIM FAST!
How much more Fad Diet can you get, right?!
I know some of you have opinions about this, so let's hear it!

I'm choosing to use Slim Fast to help me get a handle on my metabolism and eating habits in general. I don't plan on using it forever (except maybe the yummy chocolate and peanut butter snack bars.....they are delicious!), but it's what I'm doing right now. I also don't believe that these diets are for everyone. I believe that they can be easily abused and used as a crutch. But, I also believe that each person has to make their own choices as to how to lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle. For me, Slim Fast is way healthier than my eating habits to date......so I'm starting small, and in time I will wean myself off of this "crutch".
Now, it's your turn! Fad Diets: love 'em of hate 'em?!
