DIY Wednesday

This week I'm going to share with you the invitations that I made for Elliott's birthday party. Most of you have seen these, and have one proudly displayed on your fridge :) If you didn't get one, but you would like one, please let me know!

Everything about this invitation was made by moi, except for the adorable birthday outfit Ellie is wearing! I ordered that from a friend (she is opening an etsy shop soon, and I will share it with you when that info is available), and I'm so excited for her to wear it on her birthday! I'm just glad that she's walking now, so everyone can see how cute and poofy that tutu is!!

Anyways, I took the photos, printed the card, assembled the pieces.......and it was all very simple! Here's a list of what you would need to make something similar (could be a birth announcement, greeting card, birthday card, etc):

1. Wallet sized photos, 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches (I ordered mine from Costco)
2. Patterned paper, cut to 3 x 4 inches
3. Coordinating paper with printed message, cut to 4 1/2 x 6 1/2 inches (print on 8 1/2 x 11 paper, then cut)
4. Coordinating or patterned cardstock, cut to 5 x 7 inches
5. Embellishment of your choice
6. Adhesive/tape runner

My favorite adhesive is Thermo-Web permanent runner. You simply go to town assembling all of your pieces after they are cut to the right size. I used a liquid, permanent glue to stick the bumblebees on at the end.

Oh, and for envelopes.....I couldn't find any 5 x 7 envelopes at the regular craft store, so Scott got creative. He picked up two boxes of super-duper-on-sale Christmas cards last week, and we just used the envelopes from those! Pretty clever, isn't he?!

I had all of the paper for this project already in my stash......I simply had to order the pictures and buy the embellishments.

I found these cute little (and big) bumblebees at Michael's for $.25 a piece before I even started working on the invites.......the bumblebees soon became the inspiration behind the invitations (and decorations.....more on that soon!). All in all, I think I spent $7 to make 30 invitations!!! Not too bad :)

Keep an eye out for more bumblebee DIY's coming up soon!! Ellie's birthday is less than 3 weeks away, so I will be sharing decorating and food fun as I plan this party!
