Steppin' Out: Momma Style

Happy Mother's Day to all the mommas out there!

I think the more Mother's Days that I celebrate, the more I like them!
Last year was fun and all, but I think I was still in a little bit of a newborn phase funk. I've been thinking a lot lately about how hard the entire first year was for me. Or, at least how hard I tried to cover up the fact that it was hard. Does that make sense? It seemed like it should have been easier, that everyone around me with babies the same age made it look so easy. It wasn't.

Getting ready (i.e. showering and putting on makeup) was a chore. Cleaning the house was impossible.
So last year, getting myself dolled up (and trying to feel good about the way I looked when I hated the extra 30 pounds of baby weight I was lugging around with me) and out to a little family picnic was not fun. I cherish those memories of my first Mother's Day, but I have to say.....I liked this year's a lot better :)

Being a mom just seems easier now. It took a long time for me to find balance, but I feel like I have it now. And it feels good!!!
I plan to keep all of this in mind with the next child. This state of mind I'm in right now is how I need to be when my child is a newborn.
Relax. Take time to enjoy little moments. Don't let the clutter get to you....but work in those chores every chance you can get!

Anyways, my little family of three spent today in a very laid-back kind of way. Scott kept asking me "what do you want to do today?" and I just couldn't think of much! I wanted to be with him and Elliott, and that's all that mattered to me!

So we had breakfast with our best friends (and beat the crazy "brunch crowd", thank goodness!) and then came home for a little nap. Well, Scott and Ellie napped and I just puttered and cleaned up a little bit. Then we went to my favorite scrapbooking store and I got to shop my little heart out while Scott and Ellie followed behind me and made their way outside to wait while I finished up. Since the sun made a quick appearance we walked around the small outdoor mall where the scrapbook store is, and stopped in at Starbuck's for a treat!

I've been craving The Spaghetti Factory for a while now, and that was going to be our last stop of the day. But, by the time we got there Elliott was crabby because her nap schedule was just a little off. And, the wait for a table was ridiculous (we should've known)! So we turned the car around and just went home. We got to drive around with the warm sun streaming through the windows, so I guess that was nice :)

The rest of the day has been spent cleaning up around the house and just hanging out. We've enjoyed playing with Ellie and letting her entertain us, because days with just the three of us at home together don't happen as often as we would like.

I'm glad that I got to take the time today to thank my little girl for making me a mommy.
It truly is the best job ever.
I've changed a lot as a person since I became a mom.....all for the better. It feels good to have a day to celebrate motherhood, my little girl, and everything that has made us who we are today.

I have to agree this mother's day was more laid back then last years. I was too tired to think straight last year! lol I'm so happy you enjoyed your day!
